RJSGT (Running Jumping Shooting Game Thing) is a sequel to an earlier project of mine, RJGT (Running Jumping Game Thing), made for the 5th YoyoGames Competition.
In the game, walls, spikes, and enemies are constantly moving towards you at high speeds, and you must do all you can to not get crushed.
There are 5 modes in the game, each one introducing a different gameplay mechanic.
In Timed mode, you must run, jump, and shoot for your life as enemies and obstacles fly by you. However, there is an interesting twist - You have no health. Instead, you have time. Whenever you get hurt, you lose some time, and when you kill an enemy, you gain some time.
Health mode is essentially the same as Timed, except you have health instead of time.
In Gravity mode, which, again, is essentially the same as Timed mode, you cannot jump - Instead, you flip gravity.
And then there is Survival mode. In this mode, you have no gun\, and you have to survive for as long as you can, without getting blown apart by the giant amount of obstacles in your way. In this mode you have health, unlike most other modes.
And, finally, Boss Run. In this mode, you are pitted against giant mechanical monsters, created only to destroy you.
The version in the download link above is not the version submitted to the competition. The version I did submit is available here: http://www.box.net/shared/ph2eydpjn1

Liam Berry

Just wanted to say that I finally got around to trying out your game. Was quite fun I must say. I think the timed mode was done particularly well. Good clean running jumping shooting fun.
Also, I tried to post this comment on your blog, but I keep getting an incorrect validation error. I didn't see any space to enter captcha informatior anything so I'm not sure why it errored. |
Pretty cool! The difficulty is too high though, try slowing down the camera a bit, a least at the begining |
Awesome, maybe I'll review the update if I get around to it |
Big update, folks! With the release of v1.1, there is now a new boss, and a new obstacle (land mines). Also, in v1.1_NC, which is the current build, which is not for the competition, and has online highscores and customizable controls. |
Okay, cool. I'm playing again now, and then writing up a review Wow, you finished this up fast. |
I added that in 1.0, I just hadn't gotten around to it in earlier versions. I'm also going to make a version that won't be for the comp that has online highscores, externally loaded sounds/music, and custom controls. |
Good game, I feel though that you should include options (after dying) to restart or go back to the menu (just drawn over the moving screen). A problem I see with this kind of game winning this competition - although it is really good, since it's supposed to be for a handheld you won't be able to use online highscores, which pretty much saves / kills this kind of game. :/ |
Hmm... I hadn't really thought about it, but I suppose you're right. I'll try adding in different tilesets/adding more variation to the blocks. |
Cool. The gameplay was nice, and the graphics were too. A little more variation in the tiles would be nice. I don't know if you're considering adding in different tile sets, but its something to consider. |

I think I'm going to try to stay away from a story, I don't think it would really work in this kind of game, but your idea does sound like it would be pretty fun... I had another idea of a boss run mode, where you just had to kill boss after boss after boss... I'll try that out, and if it works, I'll keep it (Your idea. And the boss one). |
Wow! Pretty good! I like the graphics and the menu! You could make a story mode.. though that may be a bit awkward. Maybe you could make an arena where there are enemie AI's that come at a constant rate, and powerups randomly appear. -orange |

Good game! Good entry for comp05! |
Harder than regular games, good. Liking this a lot. |
Thanks! I hope you like. Also, I'm open to (if not hoping for) mode suggestions. I'm out of ideas ATM, but am aiming for a total of about 5 modes, so if you have any ideas, just tell me. I'll try to work them in... |

Haha that's a perfect idea for a competition entry.
I'll try to play it sometime tomorrow. |
Yeah, I already told him about that. I think Drazzke still needs to fix it up for him.
I'm also pretty sure (I vaguely remember this conversation on Twitter) that it has a bunch of bosses in it, you just need to beat the first one or something. I really don't remember, I've probably made about 500 tweets since
