About:
An abstract platformer game.
No real story has quite been written yet, if there is to be one, other than that reall of just a simple journey, in a kind of surrealistic world.
Graphics, music and programming will all be done by me. (Yay, finally a self sufficient game that doesn't look toooo bad, eh?)
You'll basically be able to jump around getting to level to level in a sort of puzzle like fashion, and collecting numerous special items pretaining to your goal.
Half inspired by Saikkailu (a game made by me and Tamper) and the game Seiklus made by clysm (tapeworm) and many of his other creations.
Heitlus means Struggle in Estonian.
I have recently uploaded a build of the current project. It contains the basic engine, so there isn't much to be had, but I'd like a litt...

Well, mainly I just wanted to get it out of my system, and feel more like you're just exploring. The "coins" or "pegs" that you collect (whatever you want to call them) are just something to actually make a bit of gameplay. The ending levels do have a little bit off stuff like the tricky little flashing platforms, and the enemies that push you off, though? Was those parts at least more fun (seeing as they didn't even seem to exist to you from your post).
I guess I could try and add a bit of dynamic, to the starting levels, hehehe.. |
|
Playing, reviewing. Edit: Hmmm, I'm having trouble with my filter; it won't let me play. I think it's just my computer, though. |
|
Its a nice little game... but a bit boring. You just go from room to room collecting coins... and then in the end it just says "the end" "press space to go to the menu" Oh yeah, and it gives the credits. |

Okay, please test. |
|
|
Yeah. Going to be taking care of adding a new download for what will be the beta version then. Will take note of bugs, and then release it. |
|
No download exists, it just goes to the main media fire page. Could you upload it to another site? |
|
|
Been making major changes, and will be adding in a variety of story elements in the near future, along with posting up a demo. Stay Tuned |

Oh. Now having tried falling down I see where we are now. I liked Seiklus a lot, but didn't...um...see the similarity? I'm liking the change in atmospheres. Although the pink things in what appears to be a grayscale room looks a little bit out of place, but aside from that the graphics are good for what you're trying to do.
Making the main character resemble something animate might help to pique the player's curiosity for the game. With Seiklus we saw a little guy sitting with his girlfriend watching shooting stars until a rock came crashing in. Is there going to be any history for the character?
I think there's a minor problem with the engine still. Occasionally when jumping sideways, when you land you kinda "hit" (in that you stop) the ground a little bit above where the ground is, then you start falling to the ground again.
I think it might have to do...with...I'm not sure. I wish I could be of more help with platformer engines but I'm not. |

The graphics aren't meant to be stunning. It's not meant to be a guy walking around or anything. It's meant to be abstract... although the snow level does need a lot of work, and some of the edge things. Anyways, the engine is done. As far as gameplay, it's mostly collecting those things. It's mostly going to be an atmospheric game where you explore the world, along with trying to collect those things. I'm going to be adding a few elements, but it's not like just your standard platformer.
Everyone's stuck in some darn one mindedness of platformer games. This IS the game right now. The first levels (other than the second cave level and the snow level) are in an almost completely finished state. Yes, I don't have Drazzke Quality graphics, with a little dude walking around, but do I need that? What more does the engine need? Would you consider it not done, even though you can move around how you're supposed to, and there's no bugs really now? |
|
|
Well there wasn't all too much to do. I'm not sure what the gameplay is
Graphics are ok. I don't realy think you should be too concerned with graphics yet until the main engine is done and I can better critique how the game feels matches with the visual elements. |

Fixed the sticky walls. |

Thanks for the feedback on the engine. What do you think about it graphically, and gameplay wise (as of what you can tell)? |
|

Sorry, missed this one. I think last time I checked it there wasn't a demo? Anyway...I gave it a whirl.
I think the engine right now is good, but it could use a little improvement. Drazzke has more expertise than do I when it comes to platformers but here's what I think could be fixed.
You have to some extent fixed sticky walls I think. However if I jump up and hit a wall above me, I can't move sideways and lose horizontal motion before I fall straight down (the wall is "sticky")
Also on the lower level at the very bottom-most platform, if you move all the way to the left of that platform so you are touching the one up and to the left a little bit and you try to jump while holding the left key, you don't move. The wall is sticky.
I'm not sure quite how to fix these though as I'm not well acquainted with platformers. I think you have to break the place_free into two parts, one place_free in the x and one place_free in the y and do different things but I'm not sure? |

Someone please test if you can. I'd like some feedback on the game so far. |
