Hey all, I've recently been working on a project of mine; an IRC trivia game! Basically, I registered an IRC channel on mibbit.com in which I can hold a trivia competition run by the CoggerKing! IRC channel info Server: irc.mibbit.net Port: 6667 Channel: #coggers In case you're IRC-ignorant (like I am!), here's a link to an in-browser Mibbit thingy that basically connects you to the channel hassle-free. Just choose a username and you're good to go. General Idea What I'm planning atm is that every week (or maybe every two weeks), CoggerKing will host (I will moderate) an ~30 minute trivia game session. CoggerKing asks a question, and then the quickest correct responder in the IRC channel is awarded a point (no penalty for wrong answers!), and CoggerKing moves on to another question. The questions move fairly quickly so I'm hoping for 75-100 questions by the first trivia session if it is to last for about 30 minutes. Categories The trivia questions will have three primary categories: - GameCOG games - GM games (non-GameCOG) - Other Indie Games (non-GM non-GameCOG) Questions This is where I would like your help. If you have any particular trivia questions you think would be suitable for a small trivia competition, please send them to me. I am offering a 2 (accepted) trivia questions : 1 GameCOG point rate of my own points. (I can carry these transactions out now) Here is how I would like questions formatted: [question]*[possible answer 1]*[possible answer 2]...etc.... So, an example question could be: How many minutes are in an hour?*sixty*60 There is no limit to the number of possible answers (I think), so try to include all the main possible solutions. All answers should be in lower case and without any form of punctuation unless you think it's important. (just to have something of a standard) Some guidelines for sending in questions: - If your trivia is from a non-GameCOG game, please try to make it from a game that somebody else here is likely to have played. - The more specific your question is, the more well-known (among GameCOGGERs in general) the game should be. So don't make extremely specific trivia questions from largely unknown games. - If your trivia is from a GameCOG game, go ahead and make it very specific! We're trying to encourage people to play the games and projects posted here on GameCOG, and the easiest way to do that is to ask fun questions you can't answer from just glancing the game descriptions or glancing at the screenshots. - The trivia can be about development of a game (such as, What is the online alias of the music developer for Frozzd?), but again, try to keep it something that has a decent chance of other people knowing or at least going, "Oh, I knew that!" when the right answer is displayed. - You can either PM me trivia questions here on GameCOG or via email [Profile with email]) Again, for every two accepted questions, one GameCOG point will be awarded from my own stash.
If you have any ideas on how this could be run better, I'm all ears. I'll likely be sneaking in some trivia about GameCOG itself. - Desert and CoggerKing |

Sounds interesting. That day is fine for me, as long as someone else doesn't steal my computer. I'll try to make some trivia questions |

Sounds good to me. I'll try and think up some questions.
(also edited first post to add some titles here and there, just to make the post a bit clearer) |

Sounds cool. I'll try to think up some questions. One thing I object to, however, is that the "Indie Games" category must be non-GM. I mean, I make games with GM, but I consider myself to be an indie game developer developing Indie Games. Also, why would it have to be non-GameCOG? Couldn't the Indie Games category be all games Indie, like the name implies? I also object to the GM Games category being non-GameCOG. |

I do believe that DesertDweller is putting Gamemaker games and GameCOG games as subsets of the great set of Indie Games (all gamemaker games being indie games but not all indie games being gamemaker games). |

Yes, you're right ninjutsu63. Indie Games is a broad category that all the trivia will be rooted in, so I'm subdividing it into: GameCOG Games Game Maker games that aren't posted on GameCOG Other Indie Games My goal is to make these categories approximately the same in size. |

Haha, that's exactly what I'm doing in the actual questions file. I'll put it here too just to make sure that there's no confusion. |

Yeah actually Drazzke just threw that together one day. Apparently we didn't think far enough to make it do something WHEN the time began.

Friendly reminder that trivia starts in just less than 8 hours from thist post. As with last week there is a timer handy on the front page of GameCOG. Remember that the channels is #coggers, not #cogger. Link to channel: CoggerKing Trivia |

I will hopefully be there. Have to do lots of studying for finals though |

Most of all, we hope this turns into a fun opportunity to help us all get a little bit more involved in the realm of indie games. CoggerKing's really excited to get the chance to do this!

Is there a way to make it update automatically? (example: when the trivia starts, maybe it could say "trivia in session, click here" and when it's done it starts the countdown for the next trivia)
